Lake Bonavista offers U5 and U6 Outdoor Soccer on the fields beside Lake Bonavista Elementary School. The Outdoor Season runs from late April to late June, weather permitting.
In 2012 Lake Bonavista Soccer will again split the U5 and U6 age groups into different nights. We believe this provides a better environment for our children to learn skills with players of their own age group. It also allows us to accomodate more players:
The U5 League, for players born in 2007, will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 pm.
The U6 League, for players born in 2006, will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 pm.
Program Philosophy
Fun! U5 and U6 Soccer is a developmental program. No scores or standings are kept. Coaches are to use positive motivation to teach the basic rules of the game: no hands, no tripping, pushing or hitting; good sportmanship; concept of the field and its boundaries; concepts of "our goal" and "their goal"; concepts of "attacking" and "defending". Encourage parental involvement.
Mini-Soccer format (from "TimBits Coaches Kit" produced by the CMSA)
Small sided game (3 players) on a small field
Lots of touches of the ball
Introduce the basic rules of the game
All players actively involved in the game
Coaching theory "let the game be the teacher"
Soccer triangle (basic concept of soccer)
No goalkeepers
Coaches play the role of educators - no penalties for rule violations, just explanations
Equipment Provided: Socks and TimBits t-shirts (kept by the player at the end of the season).
Equipment Required: Outdoor soccer shoes or running shoes, and shin protectors (mandatory).
